It&#8217;s always interesting to ask the people in your life how they perceive\u00a0bipolar \u00a0moodswings. It may be very different than you expect. Here is his answer.<\/p>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0I&#8217;ve always thought of mania as a &#8220;Euphoric&#8221; high, the feeling that we<br \/>\n\u00a0all have at times that is exacerbated with someone with bipolar<br \/>\n\u00a0disorder.\u00a0 You feel like you can do no wrong, you feel great, you can&#8217;t<br \/>\n\u00a0believe you&#8217;ve ever been depressed.\u00a0 You can spend money, make big decisions,<br \/>\n\u00a0all with this state of mind.\u00a0 I compare it to making decisions with a<br \/>\n\u00a0depressed mind, you don&#8217;t want to do that either.\u00a0 It&#8217;s like two ends<br \/>\n\u00a0of a spectrum.\u00a0 It may feel great to be on a manic high, but it seems<br \/>\n\u00a0uncontrollable, decisions are made that are easily regrettable in a short<br \/>\n\u00a0time.\u00a0 Like a control chart people have highs and lows, the best time<br \/>\n\u00a0to use your mind for rational thought is in the middle, or &#8216;medium<br \/>\n\u00a0high&#8217;. You are thinking and listening less when both manic or depressed as<br \/>\n\u00a0well.\u00a0 For some people like my girlfriend who&#8217;s a natural speaker, talking<br \/>\n\u00a0comes so easy that it&#8217;s more difficult to recognize when\u00a0she&#8217;s on a manic<br \/>\n\u00a0high.\u00a0 The best way I could see that\u00a0she was \u00a0manic was\u00a0her inability to<br \/>\n\u00a0listen.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Find me some water and I will walk on it&#8221; &#8211; ancient Chinese proverb.<\/p>\n<p>When I first met my girlfriend,\u00a0she was manic.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t recognize it<br \/>\n\u00a0of course but I thought I knew enough about bipolar disorder to where I<br \/>\n\u00a0thought I could recognize it and deal with it.\u00a0 When in fact I didn&#8217;t<br \/>\n\u00a0even recognize\u00a0her symptoms until much later.\u00a0 There is no one perfect<br \/>\n\u00a0way to deal with it, other than to remind yourself and your friends to<br \/>\n\u00a0make decisions with the right frame of mind, and learn what is that<br \/>\n\u00a0right frame of mind.\u00a0 Most people with depression and bipolar can&#8217;t even<br \/>\n\u00a0see when they are out of there mental &#8216;sweet spot&#8217;.\u00a0 That&#8217;s where<br \/>\n\u00a0friends and family come into play to help\u00a0 those with\u00a0bipolar disorder<br \/>\n\u00a0recognize whether\u00a0they&#8217;re \u00a0in a depressed mind, or a manic mind.
